DECEMBER 19 — William Dudley Mitchell, 72, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013. He was born on April 30, 1941 and was married to Verlie Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Eddie Mitchell (Bonnie) and Randy Mitchell (Kathy) both of Cumberland; three daughters, Karen Critcher (Nelson) of Cumberland, Kathy Duffie (Mike) of Cartersville, and Amy Morrison of Cartersville; two stepsons, Jacob of Orange, and Daniel and (Jennifer) of Unionville; stepdaughter, Caroline Zimmermon of Appomattox; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and three close friends, Marty Morrison, and David and Dayton Taylor. DILLWYN, December 19 — Rena Anderson Bascomb was born February 24, 1942 in Dillwyn, the daughter of the late Joseph B. Anderson and Gertrude Gray Anderson of Buckingham. She attended the Buckingham Training School and graduated valedictorian from Carter G. Woodson High School in Dillwyn.
Mrs. Bascomb received her Bachelor’s Degree with honors from Virginia State College, Master’s Degree from Hampton Institute and advanced studies from the College of William and Mary. She joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Virginia State College (University) and served as its President her senior year. She was also elected Miss Virginia State, and named in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She married Army Capt. Russell Bascomb and traveled the world. She was employed by the Dept. of Defense, Dependent Overseas School Systems, teaching in Germany, Greece, Hampton City Schools and Buckingham County. Thursday, December 19, 2013

DARLINGTON HEIGHTS, December 17 — Rosalie Metcalf Lamberth, 92, of Darlington Heights, widow of Albert Earl Lamberth Sr., passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Lamberth was born May 23, 1921, the daughter of the late E. Frank and Bergie Elmira Metcalf, of Cullen.
She was a woman of great strength, courage, and integrity with a faith that sustained her through many trials and lifted her during times of joy. Her greatest joy was the family she loved and served faithfully all her days. Her family celebrates her life, her love, her prayers, and guidance.
