Weyonoke Garden Club Holds Luncheon

The Weyanoke Garden Club held their annual spring luncheon recently at the home of Deanna Fehrer with 15 members and one guest present. 

Members brought flowers arranged in small cups and saucers, and these adorned the luncheon tables.  Following lunch, a brief business meeting was held.

Paddleboard Class Offered At Holliday Lake

Get out, stand up and SUP! Learn the history and wildlife of Holliday Lake State Park with this thrilling new way to explore Virginia State Parks. 

American Canoe Association Certified Instructors from Black Dog Paddle Company will be at the park on Sunday, July 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. to give a Basic (SUP) Stand Up Paddleboard class to make sure you are safe, comfortable and efficient while you paddle with an interpretive naturalist from the Park.

SPCA Dog Of The Month Is Rodney

The Southside SPCA Field of Dreams July Dog of the Month is Rodney.

Rodney is an adorable Beagle/Walker Hound that is about six years old and 40 pounds of pure sweetness. Excellent with other dogs, he would make a great companion. Mellow best describes Rodney! If looking for a laid-back lovable dog that is the perfect settled age and medium size, look no further.

Outdoor Film Series Presents Back To The Future
The Downtown Film Series invites the community to join us Friday, July 11, for Back to the Future, this season’s second presentation of the Stars Under the Stars program.  Featuring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and one heavily-modified DeLorean, Back to the Future (1985, Rated PG for adult language) is a sci-fi adventure comedy with a generous helping of 80s nostalgia. Acclaimed by critics and fans alike, Back to the Future was nominated for two Academy Awards and won for Sound Effects Editing.

LaRoche Named Miss New York In Miss United States Pageant

Julia La Roche, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ripon W. La Roche II of Buckingham County, will compete at the Miss United States pageant in Washington, D.C.

La Roche, 26, was crowned Miss New York United States 2014 in late March.

“Early’s Threat Washington, D. C.” is the topic of the Civil War Conversation to be held at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox July 9, 12:15 -12:45 p.m..  The Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox is located at 159 Horseshoe Road, Appomattox.  This month’s speaker is Don Jones, volunteer at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox.   The “Conversations” are presented by the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.

Wade Family Reunion Held In Darlington Heights
On June 14 – 15, the descendants of Lizzie and Maxie Wade from Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina,  Pennsylvania, Washington D. C., and Virginia celebrated their 8th Family Reunion at the Darlington Heights Firehouse in Prince Edward County.  Family members spent a fun-filled weekend together.  Many family  memories were shared and new ones were created.
