SPCA Donation Drive Underway
Sunchase at Longwood is holding a donation drive for the Southside SPCA. Needed items include: pet toys, pet food, pet beds/blankets, pet snacks, other pet items, and money.

Program On Girls State
The Woman's Club Buckingham County held their April meeting at the Buckingham Art Center. The Education Department was in charge of the program. Patsy Miessler, chairman, introduced two young ladies from Buckingham High School that the club sponsored for Girls State at Longwood College.

PECMS Fundraiser Held
The Prince Edward County Middle School Student Government Association recently held a Carnation Sale, a joint effort between PECMS SGA and the Lighthouse Team (Leader in Me) Committee.  Three hundred thirty carnations were sold.

Program On Scams Given
On April 16, the Piedmont/Farmville Chapter 2080 of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and the Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) Seniors met for a briefing by Lt. Bill Hogan of the Farmville Police Department.  His topic was "Scams Directed at Seniors."

Eagle Scout Project
Hunter Maxey, of Boy Scout Troop 6516, did his Eagle Scout project in spring of 2014. He built three benches, planted flowers, and laid out a walkway around his church’s playground. This project was done at Salem United Methodist Church in Buckingham.

Heartland Heroes Blood Drive Presents Trophy
The Farmville Police Department and the Farmville Fire Department teamed up with the American Red Cross again for the fifth annual  “Heartland Heroes Blood Drive” that was  held on April 3. Blood donors were asked to donate blood in honor of the police or fire department. The department generating the most donations received the “Heartland Heroes Blood Drive” trophy provided by The American Red Cross.

Spears To Speak At Watson Bird Club
The Margaret Watson Bird Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m., with refreshments available at 6:40 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library. The publish is cordially invited to attend.

H-SC Students Take Part In Big Event

On Saturday, April 18, the 5th annual Big Event attracted numerous Hampden-Sydney students, faculty, and staff volunteers. This event is known as a day of service with a simple message to the community, “Thank You.”

It originated at Texas A&M in 1982, and the Big Event has since spread to campuses across the country. It is now one of the largest student-led service projects in the nation. The purpose of the Big Event is to give back to the community and to thank local residents for their support throughout the year.
