Hurricane Isabel: September 18th 2003
No lives were lost, but
Hurricane Isabel huffed and puffed and blew trees onto houses, uprooting
thousands of area residents from their accustomed attachment to electricity
for days, while dumping more than five inches of rain. Emergency shelters
were opened in Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward as the hurricane
advanced and hundreds took advantage of the safety they offered. Isabel's
eye roared just east of the area, according to the National Weather Service.
