Wilson, 64, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007.
She was born February 2, 1942 in North Carolina, a daughter
of the late Martin and Pansey Wilson Edwards.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. (Prime) Wilson Jr.;
her children, Janet W. Bishop of Rice, Deborah Scurti and her husband, Frank of
Virginia Beach and Robert C. Wilson III and his wife. Lisa of Cleveland, NC; her
brothers, J. C. Edwards of Burnsville, NC, Charlie Edwards and George Edwards
both of Cleveland, NC; her sisters, Martha Atkins of Marion, NC and Louise Smith
of Greensboro, NC; her grandchildren, Ashley and Samantha Bishop of Cumberland,
Nicholas and Emily Grace Scurti of Virginia Beach and Abbie Wilson of Cleveland,
NC; her great-grandchildren, Meghan and Taylor Moore both of Cumberland and
Scott Austin Jr. of Powhatan and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the
Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment in Trinity Memorial
Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 6
to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

AnnaBelle Lee (Warren), 83
Former Buckingham
Teacher/Principal, Dies
OHIO, Jan. 23 - AnnaBelle Lee
(Warren), age 83, passed away on January 22, 2007 at Kobacker House Hospice in
Columbus, Ohio, with her daughter at her side.
AnnaBelle was born on November 13, 1923, in Hominy, Oklahoma.
After graduation from high school at Whittler Union High in Whittier CA, she
joined the U.S. Navy WAVES. After discharge, she attended University of Tulsa
and UCLA, then worked in Tokyo, Japan for the US Occupation Forces serving as a
reporter for the Stars and Stripes newspaper. She completed her B.S. from
Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK, in 1952.
AnnaBelle was an elementary school teacher, teaching for 20
years in six states and Germany. She taught in Buckingham County at Arvonia
Elementary, and Gold Hill Elementary, from 1968 to 1972. She then served as an
elementary school principal in Buckingham County for 16 years. Including one
year at Dillwyn Elementary, and 14 years at Arvonia Primary School, with service
also as a principal in Cumberland County before retirement. She earned an M.S.
from Longwood College in Farmville in 1973; and an Ed.D. from Nova University in
1987.
Creative writing was her avocation, and she wrote many
essays, poems, and children's stories over the years. Her play, "You Never Heard
of Peter Francisco?" about the Buckingham County Civil War hero, was performed
for the Buckingham Women's Club. After retirement, she lived in Tulsa, OK, where
she briefly attended law school, managed a Senior Services meal center, was a
substitute teacher, and pursued her interest in the vegetarian life-style of
Natural Hygiene. In 1995, she published a book, Blueprint for Health, about this
topic. In 1998, she was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame by her college
alma mater.
In 2001 she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where "GranArnn" took an
active part in her daughter and grandchildren's lives and was a substitute
teacher for Columbus and Worthlngton schools. In January of 2006 she moved to
Independent Living at the Wesley Glen Retirement Community where she made many
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Jurdan Lee
and Roxie Anna (Scott) Lee; beloved sister, Berneice Oertel; step-brother, James
C. Williams; husband of 33 years, Hancel Warren; and second husband James
Larmore.
She is survived by her beloved and loving daughter, Rev.
Hancella (Rev. Orin) Newberry; grandchildren, Libby and Max Newberry of
Worthington; and extended family: Martha Williams of Tulsa OK; Carolyn Bridges,
Joyce Travis and Linda Yohn of Bakersfield, CA; Thelma Conway and Judith Conway
Watts of Marshall, AK; and many life-long friends.
Friends may call at Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High
St., Worthlngton, OH, on Thursday, January 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. where a funeral
service will be held at 5 p.m. with Pastor Bob Mathis of Meadow Park Church of
God officiating. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Glen Retirement
Community, 5155 N. High St., on Monday, January 29, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium,
Chaplain Lynn Confar officiating.

PROSPECT, Jan. 23 - Mary Arline
Jordan, 82, of Prospect, died Thursday, January 18, 2007 at her home in
Prospect.
She was the third of 14 children born to the late Levitt and
Elnora Perkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Henry
Jordan; brother, Clarence Perkins; and sister, Fannie Scruggs.
Arline remained a faithful member of Sulphur Spring Baptist Church
until her passing. She is survived by her eight children: Henry (Mattie). Louise
(Isaac) Welton; Cleveland; Queen (Larry) Lyttle; Mae (Lloyd) Jackson; Chester
(Sarah); James; Charles Jordan Jr.; eight sisters: Rosa Hartman; Lucy Bland;
Corine (Charles) Bland; Louise Scott; Edith James; Pauline (Browlee) Hailstock;
Jannia Jones; Nannie (George) Jones; three brothers: Earl Perkins; Tommy (Debra)
Perkins; Lawrence (Louise) Perkins; one aunt: Pearl Tyler; one uncle: John
Jones; 37 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and
a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 at 1
p.m. at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Taylor M. Bruce
DANVILLE, Jan. 23 - Taylor Mottley
Bruce, of Danville, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
He was born in Rice on May 27, 1915, a son of the late Thomas
Watts Bruce and Pauline Hubbard Bruce.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United
States Army and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and American
Legion Post #325. He was an avid golfer and a member of Tuscarora Country Club.
Mr. Bruce was employed by Export Leaf Tobacco Company in
Richmond prior to moving to Danville to serve as manager of the Firestone Tire
Store. He completed his career working for over 25 years as a salesman for
Swanson Motors.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister,
Thomas Wilson Bruce, John Martin Bruce, Charlotte Bruce Steger and Robert Wooten
Bruce.
Mr. Bruce married Sarah Carter Bruce on December 27, 1940, who
survives of the home. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and one
daughter, Sarah Bruce Cahill and her husband. Bob of Penhook, Taylor Mottley
Bruce Jr. and his wife, Dottie of Greer, SC and John Thomas Bruce and his wife,
Meg of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren, John David Tennant and his wife, Fran of
Huntersville, NC, W. Michael Tennant and his wife, Annette of Chesterfield, Seth
Taylor Bruce and his wife, Leigh of Taylors, SC, Tiffany Bruce Nixon and her
husband, Ryan of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Elizabeth Bruce of Alexandria, David Thomas
Bruce of Blacksburg and Emily Anne Bruce of Lynchburg and five
great-grandchildren, Ashley J. Tennant, Tayler A. Tennant, John N. Tennant,
Taylor B. Nixon and Tristan M. Nixon.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the
graveside at Highland Burial Park by the Reverend Linwood Daniel.

JANUARY 23 - John Gus Kappas, 76, of
Virginia Beach, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Holly Manor Nursing Home in
Farmville.
He was the son of the late Gus and Mabel Knowles Kappas and
was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Spain and Helen Higgins.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan K. Porter and husband,
Kevin S. of Manassas and Lisa K. Gantt and husband, James of Farmville; two
sisters, Gaynell Kracget of Colonial Heights and Alice Briggs of Xenia, Ohio;
two granddaughters, Emily Kay and Carter Lynn Gantt.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 25,
at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Elvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033
Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral
service.

ARIZONA, Jan. 23 - William D.
Graham, 84, of Sun City, Arizona, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January,
14, 2007, after an extended illness.
He was born on August 19, 1922, in Canton, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Graham (Hall); a
brother, Gerald Graham and his wife. Dale Graham of Richmond, formerly of
Farmville; two daughters, Tasha May, Lynn Kennedy; a son, Thomas Graham; three
grandchildren, John, Missy, and Suzanne; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and
Rachel, and many nieces and nephews.
William Graham inspired many with his music. He played music
for the children's choir at St. Charles Borromeo.
Funeral services are to be held at the Menke Funeral Home
Chapel.

Baber Dunkum, 53, of New Canton, died Monday, January 15, 2007.
She is survived by her father, Randall Baber of Laurens, SC;
her husband, David R. Dunkum; a daughter, Sharon Hinson and husband, Kevin of
Laurens, SC; a brother, Mike Baber of Cross Hill, SC and a granddaughter,
Katelyn Hinson of Laurens, SC.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at
Buckingham Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. A memorial
service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church, Laurens, SC.

John "Jack" Morton Osborn,
91

Died Sunday
John "Jack" Morton Osborn,
91, of Farmville, died Sunday, January 14,2007.
He was born in Hanover County, a son of the late Reverend
Frank Wootton Osborn and Helen Pauline Morton Osborn on September 17, 1915. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Putney Osborn.
Mr. Osborn attended Hampden-Sydney College and was a veteran
of the U.S. Army Air Corp serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II.
After the war, Mr. Osborn returned to Farmville and in 1946,
he and his brother, the late Asa Frank Osborn, opened a "wholesale" grocery
business as Osborn Brothers in Jackson Heights. In 1954 Jack Osborn built a new
retail grocery store across the highway and operated it as Stop and Shop until
his semi-retirement in 1970.
The Jackson Heights area of Cumberland, which included Mr.
Osborn's home and business, was officially annexed by the Town of Farmville in
1971.
Mr. Osborn was chosen by the town council to fill an
unexpired term on town council in January 1980. He was elected to a full term in
the May town election 1980 and was re-elected to serve four terms (16 years)
before declining to seek re-election in 1996.
Mr. Osborn was a recognized authority on local history. He
was a 60-year charter member and officer of Farmville Veteran of Foreign Wars,
Chapter 7055, organized in 1946.
In addition to his civic activities, Mr. Osborn was an avid
hunter and member of a hunt club. He was chairman of Farmville Planning and
Zoning Commission for a number of years, very active in the Farmville Historical
Society, member of the High Bridge Camp, Sons of the Confederacy and Sons of the
American Revolution.
He is survived by his son, The Honorable Leslie Morton Osborn
and wife, Kelley of Kenbridge; a daughter, Margaret Putney Osborn Kirby and
husband, Floyd William of Richmond; a sister, Josephine Kemper Osborn Ashton of
Leesburg; four grandchildren, Jonathan of Chicago, IL, Marcy Virginia Osborn of
Kenbridge, Preston Randolph Kirby of Richmond and Warren Byars Kirby of
Charlottesville.
Graveside services were conducted today (Tuesday) at 1:30
p.m. from Westview Cemetery.

North Main Street, Farmville, VA 23901 or the charity of donor's choice.

GLENMORE, Jan. 16 - Alfred Wilson
Ragland Jr., 82, of Glenmore, passed away and went to be with the Lord on
Saturday, January 13, 2007.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in both the Army and
Air Force, retiring after 21 years of service. After his military service, he
was employed by the University of Virginia, retiring in 1985. He was a member of
the Woodland United Methodist Church.
The son of Alfred Wilson Ragland and Clark Branch Ragland, he
is survived by his wife of 62 years, Christine Ragland; four sons, Alfred and
wife, Carol, Ronnie and wife, Jennie, Kenny and wife, Anita and Vince and wife,
Maria; one daughter, Joanne Jamerson and husband, Joe; nine grandchildren and
ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John Willard
Ragland.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7
to 9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the
funeral home with interment in Glenmore United Methodist Church Cemetery.

NEW CANTON, Jan. 16 - Eleanor Martin
Davies, 96, of New Canton, died Monday, January 15, 2007.
Born May 21, 1910 in Buckingham County, she was the daughter
of the late Alexander H. Martin Sr. and Lillie Davis Martin. She was the widow
of Carl W. Davies.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy D. Mickles and husband,
Gene of Mechanicsville; a granddaughter, Michelle L. Finney and husband, Bruce
of Orange and a sister. Winnie M. Snyder of McLean.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 5
to 7 p.m. at the Colbert Funeral Home, Bremo Bluff.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted 12:30
p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, New Canton.

Of Cumberland
Dies Monday
JANUARY 16 - Clinton Lee Jackson, 62,
of Cumberland, formerly of Stafford County, lost his battle with cancer on
Monday, January 15, 2007.
He was born September 26, 1944 to the late Howard and Glenna
Jackson. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clark and Steve Jackson;
and nephew, Andrew Jackson.
Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in
Germany. He worked as a plumber with Atlantic Constructors, for over 25 years.
He is survived by his companion and love of his life for over
25 years. Crystal M. Chapin; his daughter, Jennifer Jackson-Conner and her
husband, Ian; and granddaughter, Macayle Ianna Conner of Amherst County; one
sister, Faye E. Jackson; eight aunts, two uncles, numerous nieces and nephews,
several close cousins and friends. Clinton was a friend to all he met and will
be deeply missed.
His family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. this evening
(Tuesday) at Bliley Funeral Homes' Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road.
A funeral service will be held 12 noon Wednesday at Shiloh
New Covenant Church, Cumberland, with interment in the church cemetery.
