BUCKINGHAM, Oct. 24 - Estelle Frances
Wood, 95, of Buckingham, died Monday, October 23, 2006.
She was born November 4, 1910 In Buckingham County, the daughter of
the late William Alexander Wood and Parkie Burks Wood.
She taught school for 44 years, all but one year in the Buckingham
County School System. She was the oldest and a life long member of Mulberry
Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Buckingham Woman's Club.
She is survived by a brother, John B. Wood of Buckingham and a
number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and
seven brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Mulberry Grove
Baptist Church where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mulberry Grove Baptist
Church.

Mylum Sr., 68, of Richmond, died Sunday, October 22, 2006.

She is survived by a son; Lennie Earl Woodfin and wife, Betty of

COLUMBIA, Oct. 19 - William Bernard Marks,
78, of Columbia, died Wednesday, October 18, 2006.
He was born September 10, 1928 in Fluvanna County, the son of the
late William Marks and Marion T. Marks.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Parker Marks; two daughters,
Sharon M. Tyson and Joan M. Manley; a son, William Marks Jr. all of Columbia;
six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother.
Graveside funeral services were held 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at the
Cartersville Cemetery.

CUMBERLAND, Oct. 19 -James Alton Keeter, 75, of
Cumberland, a retired painter, went to be with the lord on Monday, October 16,
2006.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Keeter;
daughters, Teresa Keeter and Dariene Kelley; a son, Eddie Johnson; a son-in-law,
James Kelley; two grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Coggins and Pearl
Strickland both of North Carolina; three brothers, Ben Keeter, Herman Keeter
both of North Carolina and Leslie Keeter of Portsmouth.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at
Shorter Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chapel.
Interment will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cumberland.

Dies In Maryland
OCTOBER 19 - Leila S. Lee, 92, died
Monday, October 16, 2006 at Future Care Nursing Home in Arnold, Maryland.
She was born in Buckingham County on September 16, 1914 to the late
Alvin Lee Smith and Manie Cox Smith.
Mrs. Lee was a life long member of Smyrna United Methodist Church,
a staff member of Southside Community Hospital and an active member of the
Buckingham Extension Club.
The widow of A. W. Lee Jr., she is survived by her daughter, Mary
Lee Ruck and son-in-law, Robert J. Ruck Sr. of Arnold. MD; daughter-in-law. Dr.
Elizabeth Dawson Lee of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Robert J. Ruck Jr. of Glen
Burnie, MD, Diane Berge of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Stephen Ruck of Arnold, MD, Dr.
Elizabeth A. Lee of Richmond and William W. Lee Jr. of Roanoke and six
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, William W. Lee.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) in the Chapel of
Shorter Funeral Home with graveside services at Smyrna United Methodist Church.

Dies Tuesday
SOUTHERN PINES, NC, Oct. 19 - C. Daniel
Shelburne died Tuesday, October 17, 2006.
He was born March 31, 1915 to Green Bay, the son of the late Thomas
Pettus and Mabel Daniel Shelburne and lived for many years in both Richmond and
Raleigh, NC before retiring in Southern Pines, NC.
Mr. Shelburne was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the
Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II,
he served in the Navy as the Assistant Supply Officer on the Battleship USS
Iowa, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. His business career to banking and
finance spanned a 55 year period. Including service as a Senior Bank Examiner
with the Federal Reserve of Richmond and as a Senior Vice President with
Wachovia Bank in Raleigh. He was former Senior Warden at St. Michael's Episcopal
Church in Raleigh and President of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of
America, Trustee of Hampden-Sydney College and a member of Sigma Chi and 0micron
Delta Kappa fraternities. He was on the faculty of the School of Consumer
Banking at the University of Virginia and taught a one-week banking class each
summer for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Edith Maynard McDanel; three
sons and their wives. Dr. and Mrs. John Daniel Shelburne, Mr. And Mrs. Edward
McDanel Shelburne, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Maynard Shelburne; seven grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Pettus
Shelburne Jr. and a sister. Myrtle Haagensen.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 21 at 12:30 p.m.
at the Penick Village Chapel with Chaplain Patsy Smith and the Rev. Ed Conklin
officiating.

Obituary

Lewis Meola
On October 8,2006, at the age of 75, the
Lord called Lewis Meola to be with him. He is survived by his wife,
Regina, of 53 years. He leaves behind a daughter, Karen Cerwinski, of
New Canton, two sons, Ronald and wife Maryann, of Englishtown, NJ; David
and wife Erika, of Bristow, VA; a sister Joanne Agliata and husband
Jerry, of White Plains, NY; a brother, Anthony and wife Sandy, of South
Plainfield, NJ. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Meola.
Lewis served his country for four years in the United States Navy
as a machinist mate 2nd class aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Waller
(DDE-466) during the Korean War. He received the United Nations Service
Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asiatic Clasp), the Korean
Service Medal, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Lewis worked for Bell
Laboratories in the Research and Development department for the
semiconductor, the Trans-Atlantic Communications cable, and the Telstar
Communications Satellite. After leaving Bell Laboratories, he started
his own business, Rampart of Hunterdon Security Systems, installing
residential and commercial fire and burglar alarm systems. After 25
years in the business, he retired in 2001 and moved to Virginia.
Crematory arrangements will be made by Colbert Funeral Home, of
Bremo Bluff. Services will be private. The family requests all donations

of Farmville, died Friday, October 6, 2006.
She was born in Emporia, the daughter of the late Peter Paul and
Christine Vicik Kasper. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy
Welchlin, a granddaughter, Amy Rainbow Varner and a brother, Peter Luther
Kasper.
Mrs. Welchlin retired from the Town of Farmville as deputy
treasurer.
She is survived by two daughters, Catherine W. Varner and husband.
Longest and Rebecca W. Giles both of Farmville; two sisters, Elizabeth Virginia
Dawson of Richmond and Elaine Kasper Shelleman of Arlington; three
grandchildren, Amanda Sue Giles, Chelsea Faye Giles and Cary August Varner.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran
Church with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Dies In Atlanta
ATLANTA, GA, Oct. 5 - Ben Ashley Cox,
Farmville native, died recently in Atlanta, GA, after several years of declining
health. Burial was Saturday, September 30, 2006, in the family plot, Westview
Cemetery.
Mr. Cox was a 1943 graduate of Farmville High School: received his
navy commission through the V-12 program and served in the Pacific during World
War II. After the war he received his law degree from the University of Virginia
and joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After retiring from the FBI he
entered private practice in Atlanta.
Mr. Cox was the son of the late John and Margaret Cox of Farmville.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Steve and David; one daughter,
Linda; and several grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Suski Jaznach. He was
preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Lori Jaznach.
Mr. Jaznach retired from the U.S. Army in 1974 after 32 years of
service. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. A

He is survived by a daughter, Nathalie and husband, William
McCollister of Daleville, Alabama; three grandchildren, Christina Broadaway and
husband, Josh of Dothan, Alabama, Andrea McCollister of Troy, Alabama and Adam
