      JULY 14 - Sadie Elizabeth Baker, 77, of Chesterfield, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005.
      She is survived by three sons, Pick Baker and his wife, Vivian, Harry Baker and his wife, Sandra, and Steve Baker; daughter, Karen Ward and her husband, James; sister, Betty Tillett;seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
      Mrs. Baker was retired from Thalhimer's and a member of Town & Country Senior Citizens Group.
      Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., this evening (Thursday) at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday. Interment 3 p.m. Friday in Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery, Cumberland.

      She was born November 17, 1931 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Wiley N. Young and Grade Fisher Young. She was the widow of Charles Davis Adams.
      Mrs. Adams was a retired reservation supervisor for Eastern Airlines.
      She is survived by two stepdaughters, Ann Butten and Nancy Adams of Michigan: two stepsons, Charles David Adams and Ronald Tracy Adams and several cousins.
      A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery.

      She is survived by two sons, Jim H. Morris and wife. Dottie and Billy Morris and wife, Gloria all of Buckingham; two daughters, Carole Jeanne Bowen and husband, Paul of Kentucky and Linda S. Morris of Georgia; two sisters, Lucy G. Cook and Alice G. Carter both of Buckingham;six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

      BUCKINGHAM, July 12 - Floyd Neal Word, 78, of Buckingham, died Sunday, July 10, 2005.
      He was born July 2, 1927 to the late Benjamin Harrison and Edna Scott Word.
      Mr. Word was a deacon and trustee of Enon Baptist Church, served on the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors and the Buckingham School Board. He was a former president of the Lions Club, and honorary member of the Ladles Auxiliary of the Dlllwyn Fire Department.
      He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Anne Shepherd Word; daughters. Pat Harvey and husband, Charles, Janice Green and husband, Kenny and Barbara Bersch and husband, Richard; a son, Joe and wife, Jane: grandchildren, Brian Harvey, Tommy Word and wife, Cristyl, Lisa Word, Ken, Kristin, Karen and Jenni Green and Michael Bersch; a brother, Rodney H. Word and stepmother, Pauline P. Word. He was preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin H. Word, Jr. and John Scott Word and grandson, Joel L. Harvey.
      Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

      She is survived by a sister, Nancy Leslie of Richmond; two brothers, John H. "Jack" Alien and William N. "Willie" Allen both of Farmville; a special nephew, J. Hubert Allen of Farmville, where she has made her home for the past 15 years;a great-nephew, J. H. Trip" Alien, III of Farmville; several other nieces and nephews and a special friend, Bruce Winters, Jr. of New Jersey.
      Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Williams of Henderson, NC; her great-grandchildren, T.J., Jessica and Haley Williams; her sister, Kathleen N. Speas and her husband, William of Farmville and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jimmie H. Travis, Jr. and Johnny M. Travis and four brothers and two sisters.

      She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Shelton and her husband, Alton of Skipwith and Judy Oliver and her husband, Charles of Salem; her son, Jimmy Morris and his wife, Joyce of Farmville; her two brothers, Herbert Stanley of Richmond and Joseph Stanley of Lynchburg; her sister, Lucille S. Dowdy of Farmville; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Williams and a brother, Robert Stanley.

      LYNCHBURG, July 7 - Jane Swan McDearmon, 76, of Lynchburg, died on Monday, July 4, 2005, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
      She was the widow of Marion Farrar McDearmon. Born in Pamplin on February 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William Alexander and Christine Gunter Swan.
      Mrs. McDearmon was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, and had retired from Wachovia Bank after 40 years of service.
      In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Reveley Wilson Swan.
      She is survived by her daughter. Lisa Barger and husband Doug of Forest; two granddaughters. Heather Aileen Barger and Kristina Lynn Barger; a great-granddaughter, Kaylie Jane Hudson; a sister-in-law, Mary Swan of Lynchburg;three very special nephews, Wilson Swan, Phil Swan, and Don Swan; her beloved cat. Diamond, and many other cherished family members and friends.
      A funeral service was held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 7, in Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, by the Rev. Dr. Corey Ingold. Interment followed in Liberty Cemetery, Appomattox.

      FREDERICKSBURG, June 28 - James L. Mitchell, 72, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Abilene, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Mary Washington Hospital.
      Mr. Mitchell was employed by the late Sydney Shannon and his wife, Arvel for 38 years. He was a member of the Fredericksburg Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1655 and the Paytes Hunt Club.
      He is survived by his wife, Doris V. Mitchell; three daughters, Leeza M. Manuel of Fredericksburg, J. Karen Smathers and her husband, Stanley of Spotsylvania and Valerie J. Miller and her husband, Todd of Fredericksburg; a grandson, James Shane Mitchell of Orlando, FL; seven other grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Howard B. Mitchell of Lovelock, Nevada, Clarence E. Mitchell of Fredericksburg, Charles H. Mitchell of Charlotte Court House and Thomas E. Mitchell of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Lillian M.       Greensboro, NC, June 28 -Douglas Pollard Keyser, Sr. , 58, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Hot Springs, died Monday, June 20, 2005 of a massive heart attack in his home in Greensboro.
      He was born January 21, 1947 in Hot Springs, the son of Minnie Cocks Keyser and Albert Keyser Sr. of Hot Springs.
      He began his 33 year career with Piedmont Airlines which later became US AIRWAYS. He retired as a Customer Service Agent in June of 2001 from Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC.
      He is survived by a son, Doug Keyser Jr. of Greensboro;daughter, Becky Keyser Raymer of Greensboro; ex-wife, Wanda Winebriner Bell of Greensboro;three grandchildren, Cody Raymer, Casey Raymer, Megan Jones; daughter-in-law, Kirsten Keyser; niece and nephew, Roberta Keyser Fortune of Lansdale, PA and Al Keyser of Hot Springs.
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Keyser Sr. and Minnie Cocks Keyser and brother Albert Keyser Jr.
      A funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 2, at the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Hess officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

      JUNE 28 - Helen Rose Dickhoff, 92, of Farmville, died Monday, June 27, 2005 in a local nursing home.
      She was born July 28, 1912 in Prince Edward County. She was one of six children of the late Mr. And Mrs. C. W. Dickhoff Sr.
      She was retired from McGuires Veterans Hospital after many years of service and was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmville.
      She is survived by her brother, John Henry Dickhoff, Sr. and his wife, Bertha of Farmville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Minnie Noland, Anna Pauline Dickhoff and Ella D. Nolde and her brother, Carl "Willis" Dickhoff.
      A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with interment in Westview Cemetery.

      APPOMATTOX, June 28 - Shirley W. Taylor, 67, of Appomattox, formerly of Buckingham, died Saturday, June 25, 2005. She was the wife of the late Carter Haywood Taylor.
      She was born January 28, 1938 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Orville Edward Hines Wisdom, Sr. and Elsie Mae Fair Wisdom.
      Mrs. Taylor was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dillwyn and a devoted volunteer with the Dillwyn Rescue Squad.
      She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn T. Flynn and her husband, Leonard of Appomattox and Glenda T. Houtz of Pennsylvania; a son, John Carter Taylor, Sr. and wife. Penny of Appomattox; seven grandchildren, John Carter Taylor, Jr. and special friend, Valarie Garrett, Carrie Elizabeth Taylor, Allyson Caroline Taylor and Adam Lee Taylor of Appomattox, Shannon Marie Scott of Virginia Beach, Tara Lee Scott of York-town and Cory Andrew Houtz of Pennsylvania and two devoted friends, Reuben and Helen Almond of Appomattox. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Edward Hones Wisdom and Cecil Ray Wisdom and a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Flynn.
      Funeral services were held 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Bethlehem Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
