Dies Wednesday
APRIL 14 - Florence Forsythe Elizabeth Jamerson,
83, of Richmond, formerly of Prospect, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005.
She was born September 23, 1921 in Kilkeel,
Northern Ireland. She was the widow of Charles H. Jamerson.
Mrs. Jamerson retired from Leggett Department
Stores and was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Ken Jamerson and his
wife, Joan L. of Richmond and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday
at Concord Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening
from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmvllle.

Dies Tuesday
APRIL 14 - R. Douglas Brulett, 81, of Farmvllle,
died Tuesday, April 12, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B.
and Edith Bader Brouilette, a brother, Bader Brouilette and a sister, Eileen
Mitchell.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn McKeithen
of Florida and Bradford Brulett of North Carolina; grandchildren, Wendy Hawkins,
Aaron Hawkins, Carl Brulett and Crystal Brulett; nieces, Nancy Gasink of Maine
and Donna Craig of Massachusetts and a nephew, Alan Brouilette of Illinois.
Mr. Brulett attended college in Massachusetts,
earning his BS degree and later received a MA from a college in Florida. He also
served in the army from 1943-1946.
A visitation will be held this evening (Thursday)
from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, Farmvllle. interment will be in
Easthampton, Massachusetts.

SCOTTSVILLE, April 14 - Jesse Paul Parker, 72. of
Scottsville, died at home Monday, April 11, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles
C. and Ethel C. Parker, one sister, Helen Baker and one brother, James 0.
Parker.
Survivors include his wife, Aubra Rector Parker;
two daughters, Lina P. Bryant and her husband, Buck of Toga and Jessica Parker
of Scottsville; two sons. Chad P. Parker and his wife, Carolyn of Scottsville
and Thomas E. Parker of Akron, Ohio; four brothers, Charles C. Parker of Ivor,
R. A. Parker and David L. Parker both of Chesapeake and Rodger E. Parker of
Currituck, NC; one sister, Anne Holcomb of Florida and four grandchildren, Lee
Jamerson, Ashley Tolbert, Cody and Casey Parker.
Mr. Parker served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean conflict. He retired from Frank IX and was a member of Goshen Baptist
Church, Buckingham.
A graveside service was held 11 a.m. today
(Thursday) at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery, Buckingham, with the Reverend Don
Bryant officiating.

BUCKINGHAM, April 12 - Ruby Thompson, 83, of
Farmville, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Buckingham.
She was born November 21, 1921 in Lunenburg, a
daughter of the late Charlie and Laura Ferrell Harding. She was the widow of
Hilery Lee Thompson.
She is survived by a daughter, Iva T. Wilson of
Farmville; a sister, Bessie Kessler of Burkeville; a granddaughter, Pam Morris
and her husband, Gregg of Farmville and her great-grandchildren, Holly, Joshua
and Seth Morris.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday in the
Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment in Trinity Memorial
Gardens.

He was born January 3, 1962 in Farmville, the son
of the late Wilson D. Dunkum and Lucille Allen Dunkum.
He is survived by a sister, Velma D. Sprouse of
Dillwyn;two brothers, Lanny Dunkum of Nashville, TN and Perry W. Dunkum of
Chesapeake.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday at
Browns Chapel United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Former Buckingham
Supervisor, Dies
SCOTTSVILLE, April 7 - Charles Newell Smith, born
December 3, 1917 in Washington County, died at his home Wednesday, April 6,
2005. He married Sallie Sutton of Buckingham County on June 4, 1941.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two
daughters, Martha Alice Smith Kay of Goochland and Sallie Smith Carmichael and
her husband, Harvey Russell Carmichael, Sr. of Midlothian; four grandchildren,
Amy E. C. Jenkins Millican and Ellen Jenkins Neterer of Buckingham, Anna Holt
Carmichael Redding and Harvey Russell Carmichael, Jr. of Midlothian; five
great-grandchildren, John Cabell Neterer, Charles Ashby Neterer, Lowell Mills
Neterer, Savannah Grace Carmichael and Charles Howard Redding; his
sister-in-law, Alice Sutton Turner Baker and her husband, Elwin; his nephew, Roy
Sutton Turner and his wife, Janice; his great-niece, Tellie Ann Turner Moss and
his great-great-nephew, Chase Turner Moss.
His surviving sisters are Garnet Marshall of
Lynchburg, June Lowe of Abingdon, Edith Fitzgerald of Cookville, Tennessee, Dora
Ranson of Virginia Beach and his devoted brother, Fred Smith and his wife, Ruth
of Appomattox. He is also survived by many other nephews and nieces Including
Lany F. Smith, Nicholas Mills Sutton, III, Greg Smith and Barbara Smith and his
dear friend, James Edward \Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father,
Wiley Jefferson Smith and his mother, Winnie Myers Smith, his brother, Jimmy
Smith of Lynchburg, his sister, Mary McDearmon of Waynesboro and Irene (Sue)
Saunders.
Following World War II, he ran GMC and Pontiac
franchises in Richlands for five years. He continued his career with General
Motors over another 30 years as a Chevrolet dealer in Scottsville. He served 20
years on the Buckingham Board of Supervisors, serving several terms as
Vice-Chairman. He was an active member to the Piedmont Court Services for 14
years. He was an active member of the Buckingham Rurltan Club, serving a term as
president. His community service also included many years as a member of the
Board of Directors of the Buckingham Historical Society.
Mr. Smith became a member of Emmanuel Episcopal
Church In 1941. He served on the Vestry many times, serving as Senior Warden and
as a regular lay reader for years. He was often routinely asked to serve as a
juror on important criminal cases in Buckingham County.
Most important to our country, he enlisted for duty and
served as a Sergeant in World War II, serving 25 months in the European Theatre
of War. In addition, he worked on the first computer with Bell Telephone
Laboratories School of War Training and was assigned to the 3161st
Ordnance Base Artillery and Fire Control Maintenance Company, also known as
Company "G", a unit of the 611th O.B.A.M. Battalion. Thankfully, he
returned home safely, with the recognition of having earned five Battle Stars
including participation in the Battle of the Bulge.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive visitors 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Maple Top Farm, the home of Janice and Roy Sutton Turner.

Anna Louise Dowdy, 79, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in
Farmvllle.
She was born August 28, 1925 in Cumberland
County, a daughter of the late Henry and Anne Arndt Rousch. She was the widow of
Donald Logan Dowdy.
She is survived by her sons, Rodney Dowdy of
Cumberland and Keith Dowdy of Buckingham; her sister, Edna Wright of Cumberland
and her grandchildren, Jessica Bennett of Burkeville and Brian Dowdy of Atlanta,
GA. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald William Dowdy.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 12
noon in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmvllle, with interment in Center
Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cumberland.

from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

90, of Buckingham, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at her home.
She was born January 5, 1915 in Buckingham
County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Perkins Whorley and Rosa Call Whorley.
She was the widow of Frank Home.
She is survived by seven children. Ruby Bryant,
Louise Amos, Vance Home, Thomas Home, Dorothy Holloway, Charles Home and Thelma
Bennett all of Buckingham; two sisters, Mildred Taylor and Tina Taylor both of
Buckingham; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m.
Sunday in Buckingham Community Cemetery.

DILLWYN, April 7 - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Baird
Edwards, 87, of Dillwyn, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 in Johnston-Willis
Hospital, Richmond.
She was born December 24, 1917 in Buckingham County, a
daughter of the late Harvey Lee Baird and Mary Jones Baird. She was the widow of
Walter Edwards, Sr.
Mrs. Edwards was the St. Andrews community
correspondent for The Farmville Herald for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Edwards of
Dlllwyn and David Edwards of Richmond;four daughters, Katherine E. Barrett of
Richmond, Louise Ripley of Howardsville, Frances Murphy of Dillwyn and Jennie
Hardy of Farmville; five sisters, Valarie B. Nicholas of Wood-stock, Lucinda B.
Wheeler of Scottsville, Marvin B. Brocken of Locust Grove, Joyce B. Spencer of
Buckingham and Beverly B. Ballard of Colorado; two devoted nieces, Doris Baueke
of Midlothian and Charlotte Creed of Bumpass; 19 grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Edwards, Jr.
and Freddie Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at
St. Andrews Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

RICHMOND, April 7 - Lucy Thompson Payne, 75, of
Richmond, widow of Charles "Bootsie" Payne, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday,
April 5, 2005.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey Esley
Thompson and Elsie May Moorefield.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah P.
Pollack of New Market, and Teresa P. Kestner of Doswell; two grandchildren,
Taylor P. Kestner and Harrison P. Pollack: one sister, Frances Thompson Slater
of Richmond and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Payne was a member of Pine Street Baptist
Church and was a former nurse at Johnston-Willis Hospital.
The family will receive friends at the Bliley
Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday
(today) where services will be held 12 noon Friday. Interment will be in
Westhampton Memorial Park.

Nancy S. Walsh

Native, Dies In WA
MUKILTEO, WA, April 7 - Nancy S. Walsh passed
away on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at her home in Mukilteo, WA.
She was born in Cumberland County on August 15,
1924 to Arthur and Maude Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph
D. Walsh, sisters, Christine Womack and Vara Harrington and brother, Neal Smith,
all of the Farmville area, and brother, Arthur J. Smith, Jr. of Richmond.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon K.
Walsh-Tennis; son-in-law, Timothy; grandsons, Logan L.W. Tennis and Landen T.W.
Tennis; sister-in-law, Maxine Smith of Farmville, and many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Mrs. Walsh graduated from Garfield Memorial
Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. In 1950 she joined the Army Nurse Corp. She
served during the Korean Conflict where she received the Commendation Ribbon.
After leaving the Army, she worked at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA for 29
years, retiring in 1986.
A memorial service will be held April 8 in Lynnwood,
WA.
