      APPOMATTOX, Feb. 24 -Robert Thomas "Bruce" Morris, Jr., 80, of Appomattox, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at his residence in Buckingham County.
      Born in Buckingham County December 10, 1924, he was a son of the late Robert Thomas Morris, Sr. and Beulah Webb Morris.
      Mr. Morris was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and a retired tobacco farmer by trade.
      He is survived by many cousins and friends including the Webb Family and special cousins, C. J. and Connie Morris and Mike and Cindy Morris and their children, Maggie and Hallie. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Christine Morris.
      Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Mohlmaster, with burial following in the church cemetery.
      The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, Saturday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Stanley T. Vaughan, 93
Of Farmville
Dies Friday

      FEBRUARY 24 - Stanley Thomas Vaughan, 93, of Farmville, died at his home on Friday, February 18, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Noble Dearing Vaughan.
      He was born July 17, 1911 in Prospect, a son of the late William Wallace and Edith Adams Vaughan.
      Mr. Vaughan was a Virginia Department of Agriculture Division of Markets employee for 45 years, the last 30 of which he was state supervisor of regulatory and enforcement.
      He interrupted his employment during World War II to enlist in the U.S. Army and served as Mess Sergeant later attached to an Air Force ordnance company. He saw duty in the Mediterranean and Pacific arenas. He was discharged in 1945 as a Technical Sergeant with the Eamet Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
      Mr. Vaughan was an 80 year member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities that also included caretaker of building and grounds. He was president of the Olive Branch UMC Cemetery Association.
      At the age of 23, he became a Mason affiliated with Prospect Lodge #279 that later merged with Pamplln Southside #191 where he was a Life Member in Perpetuity. He received his 50 and 60 year pins and 70 year plaque from the Grand Lodge of Virginia for his loyalty and faithful service to Freemasonry. He served as the Masonic Home Ambassador, raising funds for the home throughout the 26th Masonic District.
      In May 2004, at the dedication of the Brown Memory Support Center at the Masonic Home of Virginia, he was recognized for his generosity and support with the naming of Room # 11 in his honor.
      Mr. Vaughan was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Lynchburg, Orient of Virginia and Kazim Shriners, A.A.O.N.M.S. Temple of Roanoke, as well as Pamplln Chapter #58 Order of the Eastern Star.
      In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Jo D. Smith of Cumberland County and her three children and their spouses: Debra S. Fitzgerald and David of Glen Alien, John Marshall Smith, Jr. and Beth and Millard Todd Smith and Lacie all of Cumberland County, along with their children Cary and Emily Fitzgerald, and Mary Katherine, Hannah and twins, Jordan and Cal Smith.
      Other survivors include his sister, Edith V. Quigley of Richlands, WA; a half sister, Annie Belle V. Agee of Manakin-Sabot and a half brother, James R. Vaughan, Sr. of Lynchburg;sisters-in-law, Janet K. Vaughan of Farmville and Nola L. Vaughan Fauber of Raphine, along with numerous nieces and nephews including Carolyn Vaughan of Farmville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, and two half sisters.
      A memorial service with Masonic rites and military honors will be held on Sunday at Olive Branch UMC at 2 p.m., visitation will follow at the church. Mr. Vaughan was an anatomical donor.

      CUMBERLAND, Feb. 22 -Edward E. Ryjowski, Jr., 37, of Cumberland, died Friday, February 18,2005.
      He was born April 2, 1967 in Canton, Ohio, a son of Edward E. Ryjowski of Canton, Ohio and Camilla Rabon of Farmville.
      He worked as a carpenter for C. E. Jones Construction.
       In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Eric J. Ryjowski of Farmville.
      A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at Worsham Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Canton, Ohio. The family will receive friends following the service.

      RICE, Feb. 22 - Granville Arvil Higgins, Sr., 84, of Rice, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, February 18, 2005 in Farmville.
      He was born in Tennessee, a son of the late Harry Banner and Maude Robinson Higgins.
      Mr. Higgins was a retired dairy fanner and former deputy sheriff for Cumberland County. He was an United States Army Veteran of World War II.
      He is survived by a daughter, Juanlta H. Hazlegrove of Cumberland; a son, Granville A. Higgins, Jr. of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Edith Dunnavant of Blackstone and Cordelia Higgins of Crewe; a brother, Wayne Higgins of Fayetteville, Georgia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valma Dunnavant Higgins; a son, Harry Ellis Higgins; five brothers, Hoover, Ernest, James, Willard and Hillard Higgins.
      Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

      She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Fish of Eastman, GA and Faye Buza of Abilene; grandchildren, Carlton Fish, Gayle Fish, Jean Miller, Steven Dowdy, Teresa Powell, Tommy Dowdy, Debbie Hall, Michael Mason and Lisa Parsons; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, John Mason.

      MILLINGTON, TN, Feb. 22 -Dr. Edward Alexander Crawford, Jr., 85, of Millington, TN, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005.
      He was born in McConnell's, SC, a son of the late Dr. Edward Alexander Crawford, Sr. and Kate Patton Crawford.
      Dr. Crawford was a retired professor of Biology from Hampden-Sydney College. He was a graduate of York County Schools and the University of Virginia. He was a U. S. Army World War II veteran having received the Purple Heart.
      He is survived by his wife, Jeanene Sullivan Crawford;
three stepsons, Stewart D. Kaminer of Crestview, FL, Marc K. Kaminer of Warner-Robbins, GA and Scott M. Kaminer of Cincinnati, OH and seven grandchildren.

      Mr. McCauley was the owner of J.D. Trash Service in Albemarle County and loved playing Bluegrass music.
      In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Julia Ellen Faircloth McCauley of Dlllwyn; a daughter, Judy Ella Morris and husband, James of Dlllwyn; two sons, Lewis Franklin McCauley, Jr. and wife, Tracey of Fork Union and Samuel Shepard McCauley of Dillwyn; three brothers, Oscar McCauley, Jr. of Troy, Norman McCauley of Staunton and Boyd Joseph McCauley of Barboursville; a sister, Edna Gertrude Hunter of Waynesboro; grandchildren, James Earl Morris, III, Julia Elizabeth Morris, Samantha Ellen Morris.       FEBRUARY 17 - Annie Maude Dowdy Burger, 91, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at the Appomattox Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late William Marshall Burger and a long time resident of Farmvllle.
      Born in Prince Edward County, February 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hamilton Dowdy and Annie Singleton Dowdy. She was a member of the Farmvllle United Methodist Church for over 70 years.
      She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wilbur France Burger and wife, Libby and Dr. William Marshall Burger, Jr. and wife, JoAnne;three grandchildren and spouses, Wilbur France Burger, Jr. and wife, Mary, Teresa Stubblefield and husband. Jay, Mary Curry and husband, Dale;three great-grandchildren, Marshall Stubblefield, Hundley Burger and Lilly Stubblefield; three sisters, Bessie Pulliam, Inez Simpson and Elsie Fulcher and husband, T. J.; one brother, Rankin Dowdy and wife, Susie and numerous nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Jarrett Burger, three sisters, Louise Glenn, Vernell Betko and Ruby Gordon and three brothers, Charlie Dowdy, Otho Dowdy and Wlllie Dowdy.

       Born June 17, 1932, she was the daughter of Rosa Stout of Buckingham and the late N. E. Stout, Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, John M. Huddleston, III.
      Mrs. Huddleston was a devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church.
      In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband of 51 years, John M. Huddleston, Jr.; two sons, David Huddleston and his wife, Robbin of Louisa and Tony Huddleston and his wife. Tammy of Buckingham; a daughter, Katie H. Toney of Buckingham; eight grandchildren, Justin and Ashley Huddleston of Louisa, Toni Beth and Meghan Huddleston, Kristy, Kandace, Scott and John Toney all of Buckingham; three sisters, Shirley Huddleston, Evelyn Taylor and Debbie Speas; six brothers, Bobby, Larry, Jack, Teddy, Junior and Johnny Stout.
