Wilkerson, 85, of Prospect, died Tuesday evening, November 2, 2004 in Farmvllle.
She was born January 10, 1919 in Buckingham
County, a daughter of the late William and Eula Bergan Scruggs. She was the
widow of Issac P. Wilkerson. She was a retired homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Bobby Wolfe and
his wife, Betty of Prospect; grandsons, Terry Lee and Barry L. Wolfe of
Prospect; granddaughter. Tammy Dunkley and her husband, Matthew of Abilene;
great grandchildren, Ashley Marie Wolfe of Farmvllle and Jessica Dunkley of
Abilene; sisters, Gladys Fulcher and Edna Finch both of Prospect; brothers,
Leroy Scruggs of Goochland and David C. Scruggs of Prospect; many nieces and
nephews and a great-niece, Sheana N. Scruggs of Prospect.
A graveside service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday
In Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Dies Tuesday
BUCKINGHAM, Nov. 4 - Susie Virginia Spencer
Adams, 89, of Buckingham, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 after a lengthy
illness.
She was born July 1, 1915 in Buckingham, the
daughter of the late Frank Hill and Nannie Moseley Spencer. She was the widow of
Herbert B. Adams.
Mrs. Adams was a talented artist and seamstress
and enjoyed sharing her many talents with family and friends.
She is survived by her son, H. Spencer Adams and
his wife, Winnie of Buckingham; daughters, Pattie A. Bailey and her husband,
Phil of Richmond, Nancy A. Maxey and her husband, Herbert, Jr. of Buckingham;
five grandchildren, John R. Booker, II, of Harrisonburg, Susan M. Booker of
Richmond, Adam B. Booker of Buckingham, Nancy Christina Maxey and Herbert E.
Maxey, III, of Buckingham; two stepsons, Andrew and Matthew Bailey; three
great-granddaughters and loving caregiver, Linda Moore, her family and staff.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, F. Addison, Charles M. and Edward
C. Spencer.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in
the Buckingham Community Cemetery.
The family will greet friends this evening
(Thursday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.

Foster, 90, of Beaver, WV, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Heartland Nursing
Home
She was born January 29, 1914 in Appomattox, the
daughter of the late Samuel Earlie Torrence and Lucy Chernault Torrence.
Mrs. Foster was a member of Farmville United
Methodist Church and was retired from the Virginia Cooperative Extension
Service.
She is survived by daughters, Joyce Foster Elkins
and husband, John of Beaver, WV and Janice Foster Cooper and husband, Charles of
Hephzibah, GA; a sister, Bertha Torrence Dickerson of Richmond and two
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Foster;
siblings, Ruby Myrle Torrence Gilliam, Lacy Earlie Torrence, Gracie Lyle
Torrence Thomas, Mary Verlena Torrence Newman, Garland Edward Torrence, Sarah
Lorene Torrence Richardson and Nannie Sue Torrence.
The family will receive friends this evening

DILLWYN, Nov. 2 - Daisy Smith Scruggs, 78, of
Dillwyn, died Monday, November 1, 2004.
She was born July 9, 1926 in Buckingham County,
the daughter of the late Thomas Shelton Smith and Rosa Merkle Smith. She was the
widow of Floyd M. Scruggs.
She is survived by her children, Florence
Robinette, Mary Coleman and Roger Scruggs all of Prospect, Annie Sears of
Buckingham and Floyd Scruggs, Jr. of Dillwyn; two sisters. Sally Jones of
Appomattox and Virginia Agee of Dillwyn; three brothers, Robert Smith of Glen
Alien, William Smith of Tappahannock and Thomas Smith of Appomattox; ten
grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at
the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in the Dillwyn Town Cemetery.

'Mike' Spangler, 65
Of Newport News
Dies Wednesday
NEWPORT NEWS, Oct. 28 - Michael Roderick "Mike"
Spangler, 65, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 in the oncology unit of Riverside
Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Denver, CO to the late Arno and
Wilmath Spangler.
Mr. Spangler had been a peninsula resident since
1940 and was a United States Air Force veteran. He worked with his father's
business. Ace Fabrication & Welding. Following his father's retirement, he
successfully owned and operated the business until 1994. Following which, he
worked with V.I.M.S. at William & Mary. He was an avid pilot and held a private
pilot's license. He performed test flights for friends and besides his family
soaring the skies was his greatest love. He was a member of the Experimental
Aircraft Association. Mike enjoyed introducing young people to the joys of
flying and worked with the Young Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" W.
Spangler;five daughters, Rena K. Emerson, Terri L. Rawlings, Deborah Briscoe and
her husband, Ron, Maria Castleberry and her husband, Lee and Elizabeth Batten
and her husband, Al; seven grandchildren, Gregory, Zachary, Craig, Matthew,
Sterling, Katie and Cami; two brothers, Ronald Spangler and Dean Spangler;
uncle, Conner Spangler; aunt, Odessa Walters and numerous nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 305
Cherokee Drive, Newport News, at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 31.

Carl Leverne (Vern)
Miller, 70, of Arvonia, died Thursday October 21, 2004. Born July
16,1934 to Carl James Miller and Virginia Newton Miller, both of whom
preceded him in death, as well as three sisters. Bertha Miller, Doris
Mayo and Shirley Chancellor.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Fitzwater
Miller; two sons, Anthony Blane Miller and wife Angela of Arvonia and
Ronald L. Miller and Terri Stewart of Scottsville; 8 grandchildren,
Joshua M. Miller of the U.S. Navy serving in Japan, Sean A. Miller and
Aaron T. Miller, Michael Elick and wife Dayna, all of Scottsville,
Joseph Keith of Ft. Jackson, S.C., Alex Keith of Arizona, Josie and Carl
Stewart Jr., of Scottsville; 2 great-grandchildren Shaylynn and Kyah
Elick of Scottsville; 6 sisters, Martha Snoddy and Margaret Gunter, both

Vern retired in 1993 from Virginia Department of
Transportation after 22 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and
was a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge #17, Centenary, where he was a
past Master and past District Deputy Grand Master of Virginia. He was
also a member of the Eastern Star, Fork Union for 25 years and a charter
member of Harold R. Stevenson Scottish Rite Club and was a past Shriner.
He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church,
Arvonia, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday.
Interment with Masonic rites will follow in the
church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m.
Saturday night: at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pritchard and
Dr. Morris and all of the nurses who attended Carl for the last three
years.

Harper Pridgen
Harper Pridgen, 80, of
Richmond, formerly of Blackstone, went home to be with his Lord on
Sunday, October 24, 2004. He was born to Isaac Lofton and Sudie Virginia
Pridgen in Nottoway County on August 28, 1924. He was preceded in death
by his granddaughter, Lydia Grace Elder.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years,
Minnie D. Pridgen; two daughters, Brenda P. Boggs and her husband,
Jimmy, and Sudie P. Elder and her husband, Rudy; and one son, James L.
Pridgen and his wife, Carol. He dearly loved his grandchildren, who
lovingly called him "Papa". They include James Loften Pridgen Jr. and
his wife, Shelley, Todd Harper Pridgen and his wife, Jennifer, Rebecca
P. Reitz and her husband. Mark, Christopher Pridgen, Ann Marie and
Frankie Robinson, Corey Boggs and his wife. Amber, Jeremy Boggs, Ryan
Boggs, Rudy Elder III, Quincy Harper Elder, Isaac Reed Elder, Little
Emma Joy Elder and one more due in March. He was blessed with three
precious great-grandchildren, Kelsey Ann Reitz, Mark G. Reitz III,
Isabella Pridgen and one more due in May. He is also survived by his
sister, Sudie P. Hawks of Colonial Heights; and two brothers, George Ray
Pridgen and his wife, Doris of Blackstone, and Isaac Ernest "Ike"
Pridgen of Crewe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, who
participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1997 after 35
years of faithful service from Shoosmith Brothers, Inc.
His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Homes'
Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive
friends .Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where services will be held
10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will take place Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Trinity
Memorial Gardens, Farmville, Va.

Jessie A. Robertson
died October 25, 2004. Mrs. Robertson was born April 16, 1918 the
daughter of the late John R. and Bertha A. Watson. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Wilson J. Robertson and two sons, Russell E. and
Thomas J. Robertson, both of Charlottesville. She is survived by two
sons, John A. Robertson, of Green County and Frank G. Robertson, of
Charlottesville; a daughter, Lucille Lang of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a
sister, Ora Glover, of Appomattox; eight grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.

Dies Sunday
HARRISONBURG, Oct. 26 - Gerald Wayne Farrar, 69,
of Harrisonburg, died on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at his home.
He was born October 29, 1934, in Parkersburg, WV,
and was the son of the late Charles Gaston and Loretta Stephens Farrar.
Dr. Farrar attended West Virginia University,
where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served In the U.S. Army from
1957-1959. He received his B.A. from Marrietta College in Ohio, his M.A. from
the University of Virginia and his PhD in English from the University of
Maryland in College Park.
He taught at Staunton Military Academy, Potomac
State College and James Madison University. In 2000, he retired as Associate
Professor of English after 34 years. He held several offices in the Victorians
Institute, retiring as its President in October 1999.
Dr. Farrar was a member of West Side Baptist
Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a leader in
the Church's Prison Ministry for 20 years.
On August 19, 1967, he married the former Nancy
Ethel Morris, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Gerald Farrar of
Harrisonburg and Stephen Morris Farrar of Waco, Texas. He was preceded in death
by his daughter, Rhena Lea Farrar.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at West Side Baptist Church by the Revs. Paul White, Charles Anderson
and George Fletcher.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m.
Wednesday at the Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Darlington Heights.
The family will receive friends this evening from
7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Dies Sunday
OCTOBER 19 - Eugene Edward Overton, Sr., 69, died
Sunday, October 17, 2004, surrounded and comforted by the love of his immediate
and extended family. He was known from early childhood as "Baldy", a nickname
given him by his older brothers because of his white-blonde hair.
Law enforcement was his life and he served 42 years
with the Farmville Police Department, retiring In 1999 as a Sergeant.
He was born August 4, 1935, in Rice, Prince
Edward County, the son of James Watson Over-ton, Sr. and Grace Thompson Overton.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Jean Overton, two brothers, Floyd M.
Myers, killed at the Battles of the Bulge in World War II, and James Watson
Overton, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hudgins Overton;
two daughters, Rhonda Overton Fox and her husband, Steve of Chesterfield and
Cindi Overton Atkins and her husband, Robin of Farmville; a son. Trooper Eugene
E. Overton, Jr. and his wife, Wendy of Leesburg; four granddaughters, Barbara
Jean Soles and her husband, Steve, Stephanie Fox, Ashley Atkins and Morgan
Atkins; two grandsons, Eugene E. Overton, III and James Overton; four brothers,

"Jimmy" was a loving husband, father and grandfather

truck and accomplished his dream of becoming a farmer. With "Jimmy", all things
were possible and in the end he accomplished what is most important in life.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday,
October 20, 2004 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsvllle, with the
Reverend Ernie Lassahn officiating. Interment will follow at Centenary United
Methodist Church Cemetery, Centenary. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m.
this evening (Tuesday) October 19, 2004 at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Tina M. Collie; four

M. Collie and one grandchild, James E. Williams.

BUCKINGHAM, Oct. 19 - Alfred Hamilton Rosen, Jr., 86,
of Buckingham, died Saturday, October 16, 2004.
He was born July 12, 1918 in Buckingham County, the son
of the late Alfred Hamilton Rosen, Sr. and Annie Lee Harvey Rosen.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Amos Rosen; a son,
John Alfred Rosen and his wife, Merle-Ann of Lynchburg; a daughter, Deborah
Rosen Alexander and her husband, David W. of Dillwyn; two brothers, Jack H.
Rosen of Appomattox and Fred Rosen of Cumberland; two grandchildren, James
Underwood and Lindsey Alexander both of Dillwyn.
A graveside service was held 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) in
Buckingham Community Cemetery.

Lucille S. Campbell, 72
Held Monday
RICE, Oct. 19 - Lucille Simpson Campbell, 72, of Rice,
died Friday, October 15, 2004 in Richmond.
She was born November 10, 1931 in Prince Edward County,
a daughter of the late Wlllie and Bessie Ann Atkins Simpson. She was a member of
the Farmvllle Moose Club and a retired secretary of WFLO Radio Station after 30
years of service.
She is survived by her children, Donnie Campbell and
his wife, Denise of Rice, John Alien (Peter) Campbell, III and his wife, Linda
of Burkeville. LouAnn Farrar and her husband, Bobby of Amelia and Lynne Campbell
of Rice; her brothers, Howard Simpson and his wife, Joan of Farmville, Charles
Simpson and his wife, Anne and James Simpson and his wife, Phyllis both of
Blackstone, Harry Simpson and his wife, Suzanne of Jackson Springs, NC and
Clarence Simpson and his wife, June also of Blackstone; five grandchildren and
one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wlllie L.
Simpson, Jr.
A funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. at
the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with Interment In Trinity Memorial Gardens,
