James Abner Seay, 79

Dies Tuesday
DILLWYN, July 13 - James Abner Seay, of
Dlllwyn, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the age of 79.
He was a native of Dlllwyn and was the principal owner of Seay
Milling and Machinery Company of Dlllwyn, a company founded in 1909 and
affiliated with Southern States since 1935.
Mr. Seay was one of the first members of the Buckingham Fire
Department, having served as Chief during his affiliation with the Department.
He was the oldest member of the Buckingham Lions Club, having held several
offices including President. He was a member of the Buckingham County Industrial
Development Authority and Whitehall Methodist Church In Dlllwyn. He was a
veteran, having seen combat action In the South Pacific and was decorated with
several medals Including the Purple Heart. He was generous in the support 0 many
civic and community activities in the County, as well as the people of the area.
He will be fondly remembered for his enjoyment of and his enthusiasm for life.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley R. Seay. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Branch A. Seay and Myrtle S. Seay and four siblings,
Evelyn S. Iobst, Thelma Seay, Christine S. Rosen and Paul D. Seay.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Dunkum Funeral
Home, Dlllwyn.
Friends will be received Wednesday between the hours of 7 and 9
p.m. at the funeral home.

CULLEN, July 13 - Fay Martin Barrow, 96,
of Cullen, died Monday, July 12, 2004.
She was a graduate of State Teachers College, now Long-wood University
and attended the University of Virginia. She taught Home Economics for over 30
years, of which 25 was at Lane High School in Charlottesville.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem
Presbyterian Church, near Abilene, with interment in the church cemetery. She
will lie in state for viewing from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian
Church.

Jr., 40, of Blackstone, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in Farmvllle.
He was born November 14, 1963 in Prince Edward County, a son of the
late Kenneth Case, Sr. and Brenda Case.
Mr. Case was a self employed construction and brick worker.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann Case; his children, Chad Case
of Blackstone, Sierra Case of Cumberland, Joseph McCarn of Green Bay, Brandy and
Randall Simmons both of Blackstone; his sister, Janet Mercier and her husband,
Kevin of Crewe and his nephews, Jacob and Luke Mercier both of Crewe.

JULY 13 - Edward L. Williams, Sr., 96, of
Farmvllle, died Friday, July 9, 2004 In Keysvllle.
He was born April 16, 1908 in Halifax County, a son of the late
Joseph Richard and Alice Rebecca Powell Williams. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Nellie Williams.
Mr. Williams was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his son, Edward L. (Lynn) Williams, Jr. of
Farmvllle; his daughters, Ruth Parsons of Princeton, WV, Elizabeth Calhoun and
Katherine Womack both of Farmville;
nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren
and his sister, Dora Francis of Brookneal.
A funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Harmony
Methodist Church, Keysvllle, with interment in the church cemetery.

RICHMOND, July 13 -Dorothy Rose Bowe, 87,
a long time resident of Richmond, died Friday, July 9, 2004. She was the widow
of Robert E. Bowe.
She is survived by her son, R. Patrick Bowe and his wife, Virginia
of Cumberland; her daughter, Carolyn B. Cowardin and her husband, Lewie of
Midlothian; five grandsons, Brian R. Bowe and his wife, Stephanie, C. Travis,
Shaun C. and Wesley B. Cowardin and Clay T. Bowe; one granddaughter, Shea B.
Crutchfield and her husband. Chip; three great-granddaughters, Emily, Katie and
Caroline Bowe; two great-grandsons, Trey and Spencer Crutchfield; her sister,
Margaret P. Voudrle of Belleville, IL; her sister-in-law, Lucille Watson of
Marietta, GA.
A memorial service was held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bliley Funeral
Home's Chippenham Chapel, Richmond, with interment in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

RALEIGH, NC, July 13 -Russell Nolan
Carson, 85, died Sunday, July 11, 2004.
He was the son of the late Charles E. Carson and Eula Gibson Carson
and was a native of Cullen.
Mr. Carson retired from the United States Navy in 1958 after 20
years of dedicated service. He then worked for Sears in Norfolk for 10 years
before returning to Cullen to become the Charlotte County Building Inspector. In
1979 he retired again and moved to Wake County, NC, where he was an avid golfer
and carpenter. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Carson and two
children, Larry Carson of Chesapeake and Carol Walters of Raleigh, NC; his
brother, Howard Carson of Cullen and Ed Carson of New Orleans, LA; his sisters,
Joyce Locke of Charlottesville and Marge Bowman of Lynchburg; five grandchildren
and eight great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) in Madisonville
Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

DILLWYN, July 13 - Cornelia Oreda Payton,
85, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Dillwyn.
She was born July 12, 1918 In Buckingham County, a daughter of the
late Ulysses and Ethel Washington.
She was a retired teacher, having taught in Virginia and Florida.
She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Sands of Stone Mountain, GA
and Dorothy Williams of the home; three brothers, Ulysses of Dover, DE, Russell
of Washington, DC and Otto Kahn of Dillwyn; one brother-in-law; six
sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She
was preceded in death by her husband. Harry Payton.
A funeral service was held 12 noon Tuesday at Holy Trinity Baptist
Church, Dillwyn, with interment in the church cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the E. B. Allen Funeral Home,
Farmvllle.

BUCKINGHAM, July 13 -Christine W. Carroll,
74, of Buckingham, died Friday, July 9, 2004. She was the wife of the late
William L. Carroll.
Mrs. Carroll was a retired employee of Courtland Manufacturing and
a lifelong member of Woodland United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary C. Branch of Buckingham and
Claudine C. Catlett of New Canton; one son, William L. Carroll, Jr. of
Appomattox; three grandchildren, Rhonda Lynn White, Timothy Wayne Catlett and
Acie W. Branch, Jr.; five great grandchildren, Katheryn Christine, Atlee Faith,
Victoria Lynn, Cabel Morgan and Benjamin Tate.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodland United
Methodist Church with interment in the Buckingham Community Cemetery.

She is survived by one sister Barbara Walters of Durham, NC; three
daughters, Lynn Gratton of Raleigh, NC, Cheryl
Ellis of Hillsborough, NC and Bonnie LeSueur of Dillwyn; one son, David Howitt
of Long Beach, CA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a son, Robert.

RICE, July 6 - Steven Mitchell Zukowski, 45, of Rice, died
Thursday, July 1, 2004.
He was born August 4, 1958 in Richmond, a son of Helen Margaret
Zukowski and the late Chester Thomas Zukowski.
He had a love for family, the outdoors, all sports and working and
building things with his hands. He was a multi-talented individual. He served
the Chesterfield County Fire and Rescue Departments for over 14 years and was
currently working with the Farmvllle Police Department as a communications
officer for six years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Pamela Jean
Willson; a daughter, Stephanie Leigh Zukowski of Chesterfield; a stepson,
Brandon Brewer of Rice; a sister, Debbie Zukowski Hiltwine and her husband,
Craig Douglas of Sterling; a father-in-law, Dr. James B. "Doc" Wilson of Rice
and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Shorter
Funeral Home, Farmvllle, with interment in Jamestown Presbyterian Church
Cemetery, Rice.

KEYSVILLE, July 1 - Misti Gamer Dunn, 33, of Keysville, died
Monday, June 28, 2004.
Mrs. Dunn was a native of Valley, Alabama, where she graduated at
Valley High School. She was employed as a nurse of a dear friend. Dr. Wayland
Dunn. She was active In the community as a volunteer and Sunday School teacher
and was an organ donor.
She is survived by her husband, Matt Dunn; her daughter, Brianna
Dunn; and her son, Mitch Dunn all of Keysville; her parents, Manuel and Emily
Garner of Drakes Branch; her in-laws, Larry and Sharon Dunn of Keysville; two
brothers, Mickey (Lisa) Gamer of Auburn, AL and Grant (Susan) Garner of Valley,
AL; her sister-in-law, Chrystin (Andy) Jackson of Keysville; her grandmother,
Frances (Don) Rutherford of Valley, AL; three nieces; two nephews and other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Keysville United
Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Saxe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 7 to
8:30 p.m. at the Browning Funeral Home, Keysville.

FLORIDA, July 1 - John Frederick Lynn, of Panama City, FL, died
Tuesday, June 29, 2004.
He was born July 27, 1937 in Farmvllle, a son of Dorothy Oertel
Lynn, Farmville, and the late Frederick Grote Lynn.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by the family of his son,
Adam Lynn, Including his wife, Linda, daughters, Pandora Bowles, Amanda and
Leandra and great-grandson, Duncan Bowles; the family of his daughter, Judi
Halavanja, Including her husband, Stephen, sons, Bryan, Eric and Scott; one
brother, William and two sisters, Ann Hodges and Mabelle Bloker.
A memorial service will be held at Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church
in Panama City, where he served as an elder, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. In addition
to the Florida service, a memorial service will be held at Farmville
Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. The family will receive
friends at the home of Dorothy Lynn.
