MAY 27 - Annie Camila Stimpson, 82, of Farmvllle, died Tuesday, May
25, 2004.
Born April 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Marvin R. and
Camila Holman Stimpson.
A graduate of Longwood College, she was a school teacher in the
Cumberland County Public School system for 60 years.
She is survived by a brother, Marvin Stimpson and a sister, Lucille
Stimpson Reynolds both of Cumberland County.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Brown's Chapel
Presbyterian Church, Cumberland County.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 7 to 8
p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmvllle.

KEYSVILLE, May 25 -Thelma C. Reamer, 80, of Keysvllle, died
Thursday, May 20, 2004. She was the widow of Robert J. Reamer.
She is survived by one daughter, Regina R. Snead of Keysville;
three sons. Jerry Reamer of Keysvllle, Johnny Reamer of Richmond and Jay Reamer
of Wilmington, NC;
three sisters, Loretta Reardon of Mechanicsville, Rebecca Taylor of Glen Alien
and Susie Hampton of Keysville; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, Meherrin, with interment in the church cemetery.
Browning Funeral Home, Keysville, was in charge of arrangements.

LeRoy B. Chapman, 80
Farmville Native
Dies Sunday
HARRISONBURG, May 25 -LeRoy Bagby Chapman, Sr., 80, of
Harrisonburg, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was born October 5, 1923 In Farmville, a son of the late William
Allen and Johnella Atkinson Chapman.
Mr. Chapman started a wholesale bakery business in Farmville with
his brothers, and moved to Harrisonburg in 1959. He was a district supervisor
for Holsum Bakery in Verona until 1970 and then he became a partner in the
Stroop Oil Company for 12 years. He then went to work for Leggetts until he
retired at the age of 74. As a very active person, he continued to work and
currently assisted with the development of Daily Grind of Shenandoah Valley.
He was on the Missions Committee of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and
became a founder and charter member of the Virginia Avenue Baptist Mission,
which later became Westside Baptist Church. Mr. Chapman served in many positions
at Westside, from treasurer, chairman of Deacons, Sunday School teacher, usher
and other various committees.
On November 2, 1946, he married Lorraine Smith who survives. Also
surviving are one son, LeRoy B. "Lee" Chapman, Jr. and wife, Sherri of
Harrisonburg; one daughter, Mary Louise Glick and husband, Randy of Dayton; one
brother, Fred Bondurant Chapman of the Outer Banks, North Carolina; one
sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Chapman of Farmville and four grandchildren, Amy
Lorraine Chapman, William Mason Chapman, Bethany Jonelle "Jlll" Glick and Anna
Lenae Glick.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westside
Baptist Church in Harrisonburg by the Revs. Charles Anderson, George Fletcher,
James Beckwith, Cliff Hudgins and Jay McGuirk.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the
Westvlew Cemetery, Farmville.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 8
p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg or friends may call anytime at
the Chapman home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Westside Baptist Church,

CHESTERFIELD, May 25 Charles K. Watts, 62, of Chesterfield. died
Saturday, May 15, 2004. His wife of 34 years, Susan Sweeney Watts, died on May
2, 2004.
He is survived by his mother, Lester 0. Watts; sister, Mary Ann
Smith; brothers, William M. Watts, Robert E. Watts, Kenneth L. Watts, David L.
Watts and Thomas N. Watts.
He was a graduate of Randolph-Henry High School, Class of 60,
member of Second Branch Baptist Church and "Branching Out", a local Southern
Gospel group.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, at Second Branch Baptist
Church, Chesterfield, with interment in the church cemetery.

Tennessee, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Watson;
parents, Pinkney and Viola Clabo and brothers. Joy and Sherrill Clabo.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Donna Watson
of Sevierville, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrie and Kyle Caddell of
Murfreesboro, TN and Amy and Gary Pounders, Sr., of Lascassas, TN;
grandchildren, Erin and Emily Watson, Evan and Corey Caddell, Gary Pounders, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy: his parents. Bill and Christine
Clark of Farmville; his brother, Bobby dark and wife, Brenda of Worsham;
grandparents, Marshall and Frankie Kelly of Farmville; uncle. Gene Clark and
wife, Martha of Amelia and a very special aunt, Carolyn Williams of Farmville.

BUCKINGHAM, May 18 -Earl "Bug" Hastings Griffin, Jr., of Buckingham
died Friday, May 14, 2004 at McGuire Veterans Hospital.
He was born January 4, 1923 in Shipman, a son of the late Earl H.
Griffin, Sr. and Mary Tyler Griffin. He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Evelyn Gregory Griffin, a brother, Tommie C. Griffin and a step-granddaughter,
Tammy Lynn Micklem.
Mr. Griffin was a veteran of World War II. He served in Africa and
Italy, where he was wounded. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He
was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8446 and past deacon of Mulberry Grove Baptist
Church, of which he was a dedicated member and worker.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice M. Griffin; a son, Bruce
Hastings Griffin of Appomattox; stepsons, Patrick E. Micklem and wife, Joyce of
Appomattox and Glenn Micklem and wife, Stephanie of Madison
Heights; stepdaughter, Rhonda Simpson and husband, Allen of Stafford; two
grandchildren; seven step-grand-children; three sisters, Lucille Diehr of
Manassas, Bernice Wells of Shipman and Gwen Wood and husband, Robert of
Charlottesville.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at Mulberry Grove Baptist
Church.

MAY 18 - Edward Dewey Smith, 84, of Farmville, died Friday, May 14,
2004 at his residence in Buckingham County.
He was born March 12, 1920 in Waynesville, NC, a son of the late
Rowe and Dollie Green Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the United States Army and Navy. He retired
from Benson and Phillips Company after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Arbie E. Smith; a son, Charles E. Smith
and fiancé, Elaine Nell of Herndon; a granddaughter, Charlan S. Smith of
Haymarket; sisters. Burr Medford and Roxie Brown both of Waynesville, NC and a
sister-in-law, Virgie Stevenson of Newport News.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday at Concord Baptist Church,
Sheppards, with interment in the church cemetery.

Kathleen Elizabeth Witt,
54, of Dillwyn, went to be with our Lord, May 11, 2004.
She was predeceased by her Mother and Father Alfred and Catherine
Delaporta and her husband Larry E. Witt.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Tina (Brad Edwards),
Dawn Capps (Bud) and Stacey Noble (Jason); with 6 Grand Children;
Two Sisters Dorothy Cox and Jacqueline Aaronson; Two Brothers Alfred
Allan Delaporta and Anthony Delaporta; Four Stepchildren and 7
step- grandchildren.
In her life she touched so many lives with her wisdom and her love.
She is a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, tender Nurse, and
caring friend. Always known as "Nannie" to all children, regardless
if hers or not. Her crocheting is described as "beautiful" and "one
of a kind". She was never one to turn away from someone in a time of
need, always there to help even if all that was needed was a
shoulder to cry on. She will be missed greatly and deeply by
everyone who knows and Loves her.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Saturday, at the Dunkum
Funeral Home, with interment in the Buckingham Community Cemetery.

GOLDSBORO, NC, May 13 -Ruth Veit Metzger, 93,
of Goldsboro, NC, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Charles F. and Jennie
Seigfried Veit and was married to the late U.S. Navy Commander John Kurtz
Metzger.
A member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, she served as a
member of the Chancel Choir, In-Saints Alive Chorus and the Carrillion Hand
Bells. She was also a member of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Officer Wives
Club, the Goldsboro Retired Officer Wives Club and the Retired Officers of
Goldsboro Association.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean Hubbard of Goldsboro; one
son, Gary Metzger; a grandson and good friend, Betty Holloman.
Memorial services were held May 6 a Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with
the Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Graveside services were held May 7 In Antioch
United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cumberland County.

Montgomery Hrom, 82, formerly of Durant, Oklahoma, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 in
Farmville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Hrom and two
sons, Robert M. Hrom and Conner J. Hrom.
Mrs. Hrom was a retired realtor in Oklahoma.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan H. Bagby and her husband,
George of Farmville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bagby of Texas and Joseph
Bagby and family of California;
three nephews, Monty Montgomery and family of Oklahoma and Paul Montgomery and
Mark Montgomery both of Texas.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Johns Memorial
Episcopal Church in Farmville. The family will receive friends following the
service.

She was born February 16, 1919 in Buckingham County, a daughter of
the late George W. Stinson and Sarah Elizabeth Via Stinson. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Charlie T. Stinson, whom she was married to for 66 years.
She is survived by her children, Melvin Stinson, Dale Stinson,
David Stinson and his wife, Jeanne all of Gladstone and Peggy Stinson dark of
Schuyler; grandchildren, Carrie Stinson, Bud Stinson, Brenda dark Roberts and
Theresa dark Harris; great-grandchildren. Jenny Roberts, Richie Roberts, Whitney
Harris, Chad Harris and Spence Harris; a sister, Lorene Stinson Bryant of
Wingina and a brother, George P. Stinson of Appomattox. She was preceded in
death by a son, Charles Stinson.

SUFFOLK, May 6 -
Gertrude Hughes James, 97, of Suffolk, widow of John Ausbon James, died
Wednesday, May 5, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Morton Hughes
and Maye Wilson Hughes of Prince Edward County.
Mrs. James was a graduate of Longwood College and taught in
Holland, Windsor, Clifton Forge and Suffolk. She loved children and enjoyed the
many years she taught second grade at John Randolph Elementary School as well as
in the Primary Sunday School Department of First Baptist Church of Suffolk.
She was a member of the Constantia Chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, the American Association of University Women and the
Longwood Alumni Chapter.
She is survived by her son, Rodney H. James and his wife, Linda of
Richmond and their two children, Mike and Jill; her daughter, Barbara J.
Brumbeloe and her husband, Ray of Marietta, GA; her son, Kent James and his
wife, Meg of Williamsburg and their children, Ryan, Ashley and Mary Katherine;
her daughter, Martha J. Thomas and her husband. Bill of Norfolk; stepchildren,
Janet Timberlake of Harrisonburg and her husband, John and their children, Jack;
John James of Grass Valley, CA and her sister, Doris Gates of Farmville.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 12 noon by the Rev.
Dr. David H. Chauncey in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory. The
family will receive friends in the funeral home following the service. Interment
will be in the Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Rice on Saturday, May 8 at 1
p.m.

- Richard Payne dark died Tuesday, May 4, 2004. He was the husband of Caroline
Bargamin Clark and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Born August 16, 1921 in Prince Edward County at "Ingleside", the
ancestral Watkins Home, he was a son of the late John Alexander and Susie Evans
Watkins Clark.
He was a graduate of Black-stone Military Academy and was a US Air
Force Veteran, having served in the CBI Theater during World War II. He was
retired from Campbell Insurance Agency and a member of Rivermont Presbyterian
Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Clark Billings; three
brothers, John Alexander Clark, Jr., Henry Watkins Clark and James Thomas Clark.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday In Spring
Hill Cemetery by the Rev. John Mabray.

Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Trunko retired from Longwood College.
She is survived by her husband, Edward A. Trunko, Sr. of Meherrin;
two daughters, Deborah Scott of Monroe Top, NJ and Pamela Trunko of Charlotte,
NC; three sons, Joseph Trunko of Riverside, CA, Edward A. Trunko, Jr. of
Meherrin and John Trunko of Riverside, CA and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8 at 9:30 a.m. at
Kurzawa Funeral Home, South Amboy, NJ. A local memorial service will be
